New Wave Latrobe Valley is a self advocacy group for people with intellectual disability and/or acquired brain injuries, run by members for the members.
New Wave started in 2009 as a way to give people with disabilities a voice in their lives, to learn and know their rights, make their own choices and learn how to advocate for themselves and others in their community in a fun and accessible way.
What does our group care about?
New Wave Latrobe Valley come together to fight for our rights, be in a community, support and connect with each other.
We believe in equal rights for everybody and are passionate about fighting for the rights for people with Disabilities.
Things our group has worked on:
Lobbying road crossing on Commercial Road
Speaking to V-line about accessibility on public transport
Chatting with local councils and political representatives on issues the disability community face.
Running technology and human rights training to local disability services.
